San Antonio International Airport (SAIA) is situated on more than 2600 acres of land and ranks as one of the top 50 largest airports in the United States, serving over 8 million passengers annually. The City of San Antonio developed a Vision 2050 master plan for the SAIA to assure its sustainability and accommodate the demands of future growth. CDS Muery was selected by the City of San Antonio’s Aviation Department to provide engineering and surveying services for the extension of Taxiway Romeo. The project was a 2,400 LF extension of the existing Taxiway Romeo to connect to an existing private general aviation hangar apron at San Antonio International Airport. Project included twin 10’x6’ box culvert crossings for drainage, storm water outfall discharge channel, removal of unsuitable existing ground material, and locates for existing underground utilities in the area of the taxiway extension.
The engineering design and surveying services provided by CDS Muery included design of taxiway alignment and finish grade profile, taxiway pavement design, hydrology and hydraulics design, FAA required pavement marking criteria design, FAA required criteria for the taxiway geometry design, re-grading of areas adjacent to taxiway, and preparing storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP). Construction document plans, cost estimating, and specifications were prepared in accordance with FAA and City of San Antonio Aviation Department standards. CDS Muery provided construction phase services that included construction site visits, RFI coordination, contractor/Owner site meetings, monthly reports, and final inspection. CDS Muery also conducted coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, City of San Antonio Aviation Department, and the other user tenants served by the taxiway extension.
