Lackland Air Force Base (LAFB) is the only entry processing location for enlisted Air Force recruits for Basic Military Training (BMT) and Air Education and Training Command (AETC) for training in multiple specialty technical schools. As part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), LAFB was merged with US Army Ft. Sam Houston and US Air Force Randolph Air Force Base to form the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA). The JBSA is the largest military base operations in the Department of Defense which supports more than 250,000 personnel. The LAFB Telecommunications base facility was a turnkey project with a design-build team of a contractor, architect/MEP, and CDS Muery as civil engineer to redevelop an 11 acre site that removed existing buildings and parking areas, abandoning of a thru-street, and relocation of existing underground utilities to accommodate the development for a new 39,000+ SF telecommunications facility and the supporting infrastructure.

CDS Muery provided the civil engineering, surveying, and construction phase services for the project. The site improvements to support the new facility included parking design for 230 spaces, design modifications to an existing road for accessibility and circulation, design for 1450 LF of storm drainage pipe, 1000 LF gas main, 1200 LF of domestic and fire water main, and 600 LF gravity sanitary sewer main.

Specific services provided by CDS Muery for the redevelopment project included as-built survey, topographic and tree surveys, parking pavement section and finish grade design, water distribution and storm water system hydraulic analysis, fire flow analysis, construction document plans, specifications, design phase construction cost estimating, preparing storm water pollution prevention plans, and record drawings. Review and approval process required coordination with LAFB departments, USACE, and utility companies.
